Finally after all this time they have novelized Douglas Adams The Pirate Planet, part of the Key of time saga. I've been in love with Doctor Who since the 80's when I discovered it on PBS. I watched all the episodes I could, and then read all the novelizations of its episodes I could buy. They novelized the whole key of time season, with the exception of second story. Which is a waste, its like watching the original Star Wars trilogy starting with New Hope but then skipping the Empire Strikes Back, and going straight to Return of the Jedi. You end up missing a great story and maybe some important story lines, witch makes the next movie make sense. The reason the novel never got written was because Douglas Adams was to busy writing his famous Hitchikers guide to galaxy books to bother with his Novelizing his other famous Doctor Who stories, City of Death, or the Unfinished story Shada too. Now Because of Adams untimely death, the stories can be novelized. Thanks to James Goss who also novelized City of Death, and Gareth Roberts who finished Adams unfinished Shada script, we can finely read these stories. Goss did a good job, he made it feel like a Adams book, and he expanded the story to give it more depth and character development. My only complaint is that he really did not discribe Romana very well, he said she was pretty and smart, but that doesn't give Mary Tamm who played Romana in the episode enough justice. I always thought she was the most beautiful and glamorous of all the ladies who played the Doctors Companions. Like Adams she died to soon. I think the author should of honored her with a in memory to in the beginning of the book. Another great book, I hope they release more original stories of the past Doctors soon.

Doctor Who The Pirate Planet Douglas Adams James Goss 9781849906777 Books Reviews

Solid book, very good condition.
Exactly what you would expect from Douglas Adams an entertaining Dr Who story with great quips and observations (I also liked the comments at the end on how the story was reconstructed from the script notes)
good dr. who story
Entirely met expectations.
An excellent Douglas Adams impersonation by Mr. Goss.
This was as enjoyable as the last few Adams stories brought to print. Some of the details conflict with the actual episode, but in a book, there are no budgetary restrictions to deal with.

The story did seem to go needlessly on at times though. It could have been 50 pages shorter and still been a good read.
James Goss captures the spirit of Douglas Adams' writing in this novelization of the classic Fourth Doctor episode. It's a great trip down memory lane for those who saw and remember the episode on TV, but like early Doctor Who TV episodes, the story can tend to drag in places. But overall this is a must read for Doctor Who and Douglas Adams fans alike.
